Privacy Policy

Nible is built privacy-first. It runs fully offline, has no accounts, and keeps your data on your device. This policy explains exactly what that means.

Summary

  • No account, no sign-in, no personal details requested.
  • Your food log lives only on your device.
  • No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no third-party data SDKs.
  • The network is used only for a few optional, on-demand cases (below), none tied to you.

Data stored on your device

What you log — meals, ingredients, portions, totals and history — is stored in a local database on your device. It is not transmitted to us or any server. Text parsing happens on the device.

When Nible uses the network

Nible only contacts the internet in these cases, and only when needed:

  • Ingredient lookup (Open Food Facts). When a food isn't in the bundled offline database, Nible sends the ingredient name only to the Open Food Facts service to retrieve nutrition data. No personal information or food-log history is sent.
  • Recipe link (only if you paste one). If you paste a recipe URL, Nible fetches that page so it can read the ingredients from it. This happens only for links you choose to paste.
  • Optional AI model download (only if you choose it). If you turn on the optional on-device assistant (Settings → Assistant model), the model file is downloaded once from a public model host (Hugging Face). This transfers only the model file to your device and sends no personal data.

These requests carry only the food or page text needed for the lookup — or, for the model download, no data at all — and nothing that identifies you.

Optional on-device AI

Nible can optionally use Apple Intelligence or a small language model you download (Settings → Assistant model) to sanity-check an entry ("Smart review"). Once present, the model runs entirely on your device — your text is never sent to us or any server — and it only suggests ingredient or portion tweaks. Nutrition values always come from the food database, never from the AI. It is off by default.

Camera & microphone

The camera is used only when you scan a barcode or a nutrition label; the microphone only when you choose to dictate a meal, with speech recognition performed on your device. Photos and audio are processed on-device and are not uploaded.

Beta testing feedback

In the TestFlight beta, the app keeps a local log on your device — the meals you enter, corrections you make, and any label scans (including photos) — to help improve the parser. It stays on your device and is shared only if you choose to by tapping Settings → Export feedback and sending the file. Nothing is uploaded automatically, and you can clear it at any time.

What Nible does not do

  • No accounts or profiles.
  • No analytics or usage tracking.
  • No advertising or ad identifiers.
  • No selling or sharing of data — there is no personal data collected to sell.
  • No crash/telemetry SDKs that send your content off the device.

Third-party service

Ingredient lookups use Open Food Facts, an open food database. Your request to them is governed by their own privacy terms. Nible sends them only an ingredient name.

Data retention & deletion

Because data is stored only on your device, you are in full control. Deleting the app removes the local database and all logged data. There is no server copy to request or erase.

Children

Nible does not collect personal data from anyone, including children, and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
